On Saturday, March 11, 2023, D.C. United hosted Women's Empowerment Night at Audi Field, shedding light on all the women and girls who make D.C. United and the DMV so special.
Prior to the Black-and-Red taking the pitch, the club hosted an intimate networking event to kick off the celebration of Women’s Empowerment Night. The event featured women across the DMV, working across business, sports and social impact, as well as D.C. United front office staff.
In addition, fans had the opportunity to stop by the club’s Party at the Pitch pre-event tailgate performances from female DJs and musicians and visit local women-owned businesses that were tabling in the concourse.
A lot of memories were made on the field prior to kickoff.
11 young female athletes from Manassas Soccer Club were given the opportunity to accompany the Black-and-Red onto the pitch for the pre-match ceremonies, which included Girl Scouts of Nation's Capital as the color guard.
The club carried on its tradition of honoring and celebrating members of our community who make the DMV a better place. Saturday night's Community Champion Award, and the first of the 2023 season, was presented to our passionate lifelong female supporters who make up so much of the Black-and-Red family.
Continually emphasizing that all are welcome and all are united, our women supporters embody that mantra in all that they do. 👏
Danita Johnson, D.C. United President of Business Operations, and Shanell Mosley, Director of Community Relations and Executive Director of the D.C. United Foundation, presented the award.
