Nolan Sheldon spent ten years as a member of the D.C. United coaching staff and played a pivotal role in the club’s success over that time.
Sheldon’s journey with the Black-and-Red began in 2010, having joined the club from the IMG Soccer Academy in Bradenton, Florida. He spent his first four seasons in the nation’s capital working within the Development Academy, first as an Assistant Coach for the U-16 team for one season and then as the Head Coach for the U18 side for three seasons.
In the Summer of 2014, Sheldon was named the club’s Academy Director, a role which he held for two years. During his time overseeing the Academy, Sheldon’s ability to develop talented youth players was on full display, as he managed multiple homegrown players who went on to sign first team contracts with the club, including Donovan Pines.
Sheldon transitioned from the youth setup to the first team coaching staff in 2016 as an Assistant Coach. In his four years on the sidelines with the first team, Sheldon helped the club secure two playoff berths and was a part of the coaching staff which ushered in a new era for the club, moving from RFK Stadium to our new, soccer-specific stadium, Audi Field, in Southwest, Washington, D.C.
D.C. United are extremely grateful for the contributions Nolan Sheldon made for our club and we wish him the very best as he continues his journey in Major League Soccer with Austin FC.
