Prolific has become a commonly used word to describe forwards in the District in 2021. D.C. United’s Ola Kamara reignited his career with a league-high 19 goals in the 2021 campaign while Ashley Hatch, the 26-year-old forward for the Washington Spirit, netted regular season 10 goals as she spearheaded the Spirit’s run to the NWSL Championships on Saturday against Chicago. The prolific pair had a chance to meet last week and there was an air of mutual respect throughout the photoshoot.
“It was a pleasure to meet Ashley [Hatch] last week and it’s great for the city to know that the top scorers in NWSL and MLS are both playing in the District,” Ola Kamara said. “She’s a talented forward and she’s one of the main reasons that the Spirit have the chance to compete for a trophy on Saturday. I wish her all the best and hope to see more goals from her this weekend.”
The pair have combined for a staggering 30 goals this season, as the nation’s capital has become a hotbed for goal scoring in 2021. Both players were goal scoring leaders in their respective leagues with supporters from both clubs enjoying a fruitful year in front of goal.
“It's an honor because of the players I play with,” Hatch said on her goal scoring form in 2021. “It's a testament to how good our team is and I’m honored that they trust me to put the ball at the back of the net for them.”
With both players plying their trade at Audi Field, it was a natural meeting place for the two last week. In a setting that they were both familiar, the pair took photos and shared their experiences at Audi Field in 2021. With Kamara scoring nine at the stadium (including four game-winners) and Hatch adding six goals at the stadium, both players flourished with 15 total goals between them at the home for soccer in the nation’s capital.
As the Washington Spirit head into the NWSL Finals against Chicago Sky FC on Saturday, November 20 in Louisville, KY, the District will look to Hatch to continue her fine goal scoring form and bring the championship back to nation’s capital.
